Why is my Exchange account unable to use Custom Authentication?

The error below occurs when attempting to log into Exchange with invalid credentials. This issue can result from incorrect credentials or an incorrect provider name in the API request.

Could not log into your Exchange server based on the credentials you provided. 
Please check your Exchange credentials-you may need to generate an app password.

  • Confirm your Exchange account's credentials. If unsure, check with your email administrator.
  • Confirm and identify your provider.
    • For OAuth accounts, use Office365 as the provider.
    • For basic authentication, use Exchange as the provider.
    • Check with your email administrator if you're unsure.
