How to connect an IMAP account for Hosted Authentication

1) Once we're on the Nylas Authentication Screen as shown below, we have to input our email address and click on "Next":

2) If your email provider/domain isn't automatically recognized, you will be directed to the following screen where you have to choose "IMAP". Skip this step if you don't see this screen:

3) You will see the following screen to fill with your data:

The sections are:

  • Email: On this field, you have to set your email address, in this example, it's "example@imap.com".
  • Password: On this field you have to set the password used to access your mailbox.
    • Note: Some email providers like Yahoo and Zoho Mail require the use of an "Application Specific Password" which is a password different from the one you use to access the mailbox as a user. Please check if your email provider requires to have one to connect Third Party Applications like Nylas and use it if so.
  • Server Information: Here goes the Host and Port your email server uses.
    • IMAP Host: On this field input the address of the IMAP server your email provider uses.
    • IMAP Port: On this field input the Port your email provider has enabled for IMAP connection.
    • SMTP Host: On this field input the address of the SMTP server your email provider uses.
    • SMTP Port: On this field input the Port your email provider has enabled for SMTP connection.
IMPORTANT: SMTP configuration isn't required or mandatory, but if it's not set you won't be able to send messages, only see them.

  • Different SMTP credentials: If you check this box you will be requested to input the email address you want to use to send messages (SMTP Email/Password), which should differ from the one you use to receive them (IMAP Email/Password).
Make sure to also set the SMTP Host and Port are correctly set up along with the IMAP Host and Port.

  • Auto-detect Settings: This will try and find the correct IMAP configuration to access this mailbox based on the provider's data, but this might not be successful. If you don't find this feature helpful please dismiss it and try to check with your email providers what's the correct configuration.

Errors connecting:

If you are not successfully connecting using these steps with your configuration please check the information input to this connector is the correct one, and contact your Application Admin or Nylas Support providing the Request ID or Support ID as shown here:

A good practice to make support more efficient is to perform the following test and send a screenshot of the result on a ticket:
