Why am I getting 'User account is found to be in service abuse mode' error?

AADSTS70000: User account is found to be in service abuse mode.

This error means Microsoft has restricted the email account due to spam complaints or policy violations. It's a provider-level block, not a Nylas issue.

Why the grant still shows as 'valid': Nylas classifies this as requiring user action rather than marking it invalid because the issue can be resolved by an administrator. The grant stays marked as valid to preserve it for potential recovery.

How to resolve:

  1. Contact the user's email administrator
  2. Administrator must contact Microsoft Support to lift the service abuse mode restriction
  3. Once Microsoft removes the restriction, user re-authenticates their account (The grant will not be accessible until Microsoft lifts the block).

Prevention: Only send emails to recipients who have explicitly opted in to receive communications. Avoid cold emailing or sending to non-consenting recipients.
