What can I do if my Google app verification is delayed?

If your Google application's verification is taking longer than expected, you can still proceed with your integration using these options. The "unverified app" warning is a common part of the process, but it doesn't have to block your progress.

Here are the paths you can take to enable authentication for your users:

1. The 100-User Limit (for unverified external apps)

Google allows unverified external applications to authenticate up to 100 unique users. This is ideal for initial testing and rolling out your integration to a small user group.

  • What users will see: When your users go through the hosted authentication flow, they will see a Google warning that says, "Google hasn't verified this app."
  • Actionable step: Your users can click "Advanced" and then "Go to [Your App Name] (unsafe)" to proceed with the authentication and create a grant.

2. Internal App (for Google Workspace organizations)

If all your users are part of the same Google Workspace, you can set your app as "Internal" in the Google Cloud Console.

  • Benefit: This entirely bypasses the verification process and the 100-user limit, enabling immediate and seamless authentication.
  • Restriction: This only works for users within the specific Google Workspace that owns the app.

3. Google Workspace Admin Whitelisting

For users within a Google Workspace, an administrator can whitelist your application's Client ID directly within their Google Admin console.

  • Benefit: Whitelisted users will not see the "unverified app" warning and will not count toward the 100-user limit.
  • Actionable step: Provide the client's Google Workspace administrator with your app's Client ID and direct them to this Nylas support guide for detailed instructions.
