Why am I getting 'Tracking options are not allowed for trial accounts' error in my Nylas sandbox application?

Message tracking features (including open tracking, click tracking, and reply tracking) have been disabled in Nylas sandbox applications due to recent security measures.

Why this change was implemented?

We discovered that malicious actors were exploiting free trial accounts to create phishing attacks. They would sign up for sandbox accounts and use Nylas tracking links to disguise their phishing URLs, then distribute these deceptive links through other channels. To protect our tracking domain reputation and prevent legitimate emails sent through Nylas from being incorrectly flagged as phishing, we removed tracking support from all sandbox applications.

How to test tracking features legitimately?

  • For development and testing purposes: Create a Nylas Development application in your dashboard. Development applications support tracking features and are intended for testing email functionality.
  • For production email campaigns: Create a Nylas Production application in your dashboard. Production applications have full tracking capabilities for business email campaigns.
  • For immediate testing without tracking: Remove tracking parameters from your email send requests in your current sandbox app. Emails will send successfully without tracking options.

Troubleshooting

If you're seeing this error from a Production or Development application (not a Sandbox application), contact Nylas support with your application ID for investigation.
